Rationale
In contemporary organizations, change has become a way of life. Companies are now operating in
increasingly complex environments, with more competition, fewer resources, less time to market,
higher customer expectations, increased regulation, more technology, and greater uncertainty.
Organizations need to be flexible, innovative, cost-conscious, and responsive if they want to
succeed, particularly in the global marketplace. As a result, managers at all levels need to be
able to Take Charge of Change and lead their teams in directions that they may not have
anticipated.
Leaders need to manage change by
- systemically assessing the current situation that is driving the change
- designing the desired future of the organization in sufficient detail to allow for successful
implementation of the change, and
- developing a comprehensive master plan, along with subplans, that will enable the
organization to make a smooth transition into the future
In addition, leaders need to be both symbolic and real champions of change while also running
the day-to-day business. The leaders areas of responsibilities in managing change are shown
in the above figure.
Taking charge of change also requires a comprehensive change strategy that includes the following:
- Increasing the Demand and desire for change
- Creating a compelling Vision for the change
- Developing a systematic Plan and process for the change initiative
- Reducing Resistance to the change
- Anchoring the Change in the future organization
Having the ability to Take Charge of Change means that you are skilled in the following six competency components:
- Being a champion of change
- Understanding the current situation and developing the desire and demand for change
- Creating the change vision
- Managing the transition: developing and implementing a change plan and process
- Reducing resistance to change
- Designing the future organization and anchoring the change
This workshop will enable participants to assess and improve their leadership competency - Take Charge of Change
